Sri Lankan President wants to promote the construction of the dam project as scheduled by the China
Sri Lankan President Sirisena, recently said that the Sri Lanka government pay attention to the project of Moragahakanda Dam (called M Dam), and hope for the construction could proceed on schedule in order to promote the local economic and social development.
The M dam project is about 190 km away from the capital of Colombo. It is a multi-functional building of irrigation, water supply and power generation and also the largest agricultural irrigation project engineering in Sri Lanka. The capacity of M dam is 6 billion cubic meters; power generating capacity is 25 megawatts. It can not only solve the problem of agricultural irrigation and production and living water in the local and northern areas, but also to solve the problem of local power supply. At the same time, it can create favorable conditions for the local development of tourism and other high value-added industries. So the project of M dam is called the Chinese style of "south to North Water Diversion Project “in Sri Lankan. The project has a bank loan by the National Development Bank of China, and takes a period of construction of 48 months.
