In September 20th 2015, the first tramway is operated in the capital of Ethiopia, Addis Ababa; it also is the first tramway in sub-Saharan of Africa. The project took 3 years and costing more than Four hundred and seventy-five million Dollars (85% of the funds provided by the China Import and Export Bank).

The body of tramway is painted with blue and white colors; the total length of the rail is 34KM. The tramway runs 16 hours a day from north to south through the Addis Ababa, which will greatly ease the traffic congestion in Addis Ababa.

Ethiopia is the second largest country in Africa; the economy has maintained rapid growth in recent years. The operation of the tramway is considered as a milestone in the history of the development of Ethiopia, marking an important step of the Ethiopia's economic development and will promote the Addis Ababa became "an undisputed hub of Africa".
